Connecting Telegram

In order to connect Telegram to enKod, you need to pre-register the bot with the only official source - Telegram bot @BotFather. Only through it you can:

  • give the bot a name that will be displayed in the Telegram messenger
  • choose an avatar image for the bot
  • create a link to the bot
  • get an access token, which will be required for integration with enKod.

Below we will go through each step of bot registration in detail.

Step 1. Go to Telegram and search for the bot @BotFather or simply follow the link https://telegram.me/botfather from a device with the Telegram app installed.

Step 2. Open a dialog with BotFather and click the “Start” button.

Step 3. In response, the bot will send a list of available commands.

Step 4. Enter the command /newbot

BotFather will respond with a few questions:

  1. You must set the name of the bot (displayed as the bot's name in chat). It does not need to be unique and can be changed at any time via BotFather;
  2. The username of the bot must be set. It must be unique and must end in “bot”. The username is used in the reference to the bot, for example: @NameOfTheBot or https://t.me/NameOfTheBot. You can change the bot's user name only through Telegram tech support.

Step 5. After you have successfully set the bot names, you will receive a message containing a link to the created bot as well as its token:

Step 6. Copy the token. Go to enKod Mailings → Telegram bots and create a new bot (by clicking the “Create a chatbot” button) or open editing of an existing one. To activate Telegram bot integration with enKod - enter the copied token into the authorization window (opens by clicking on the gear icon).

Note: The bot name you specify in enKod is only used within enKod to display the bot in the list. The bot name and its username displayed in the Telegram interface are set exclusively via @BotFather.

Step 7. To select your bot's avatar image, go to @BotFather from step 1 and send him the command /setuserpic. Select the bot you want to set an avatar for, then send BotFather the image.

Connecting bots from other services

If you already have a Telegram bot (created through Botfather) that you used in another service, you can switch it to work with enKod.

To connect, you will need to create a new integration with Telegram and update the access token to the bot.
